Selections Winter '99
Barbara Steppe

"The drawings have been prepared with oil and layers of dry pigments that are rubbed into the paper and then partially erased. In this way, parallel structures are created whose contours display organic irregularities, soft transitions, and mere traces."

"The installation of the drawing addresses the presumed neutrality of presentation spaces; not only because the work has been conceived for certain wall formats, but also because the very self-evidence of the wall has been suspended." - B.S.
